Message from the Director General of CAFRAD on the Occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Niger
On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Niger, celebrated this August 3, 2025, CAFRAD – a Pan-African intergovernmental organization – is pleased to extend its warmest congratulations to the Republic of Niger.
In Niger, August 3, 1960, marked the official proclamation of the country’s independence. This historic event, commemorated each year as a moment of national pride and a new beginning, is a festive day filled with military and civilian parades, numerous celebrations, and various joyful expressions across the nation.
The path to independence was long and gradual: in 1922, Niger became a distinct colony within French West Africa; on December 18, 1958, the Republic was established, along with the creation of the Presidency; and finally, in August 1960, Niger attained full independence after expressing its desire to exercise full internal and external sovereignty. The Republic of Niger was officially recognized by the United Nations on September 20, 1960.
This Sunday, August 3, 2025, Niger proudly celebrates the 65th anniversary of its independence—a milestone the nation continues to fully embrace and take ownership of.
CAFRAD, as a leading center for training and research in public administration, commends Niger’s innovative and responsible measures aimed at effective national development. CAFRAD remains fully committed to supporting Niger’s development efforts, particularly through training programs focused on soft skills—behavioral, interpersonal, relational, psychological, and cognitive competencies. These programs are designed to equip leaders with the tools to build strategies for a stable, prosperous, just, equitable, and environmentally respectful future.
CAFRAD acknowledges and celebrates the significant progress made by the Republic of Niger, and expresses the hope that this strong capacity for adaptation will continue to chart a reliable path toward sustainable and inclusive growth for the well-being of all its citizens.
