Commemoration of the Recovery of the Oued Eddahab Province: A Landmark Date in the Contemporary History of the Kingdom of Morocco

Every year on August 14, the Kingdom of Morocco commemorates the recovery of the Oued Eddahab Province, a historic date that holds a significant place in the national memory. This celebration highlights the values of unity, solidarity, and development that characterize the Kingdom and reflects its commitment to preserving its historical and national heritage.
On this occasion, the Director-General of the African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development (CAFRAD), Dr. Coffi Dieudonné Assouvi, extends—on his own behalf and on behalf of the entire CAFRAD staff—his warmest congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI—may God assist Him—as well as to the Royal Family and the entire Moroccan people. He conveys his sincerest wishes for health, happiness, and longevity to His Majesty, along with wishes for peace, stability, prosperity, and continued progress for the Kingdom of Morocco.
The recovery of the Oued Eddahab Province, commemorated on August 14, marks a pivotal event in the Kingdom’s contemporary history. On August 14, 1979, tribal representatives and notables from the region pledged their allegiance to the late His Majesty King Hassan II—may God have mercy on him. This event is commemorated in Morocco as a milestone in its national history and a symbol of the historic ties uniting the region’s populations with the Glorious Alawite Throne.
Over the years, the Southern Provinces have experienced significant development momentum, marked by the implementation of numerous projects in the fields of infrastructure, transport, renewable energy, maritime fisheries, education, health, and public services. These initiatives illustrate the efforts made to foster integrated, sustainable, and inclusive development for the benefit of the population.
This momentum also highlights the essential role of a modern, efficient public administration that is close to the citizens in supporting territorial development policies. Governance based on performance, transparency, quality public services, and institutional capacity building is a decisive factor in meeting citizens’ expectations and promoting sustainable development.
As a Pan-African intergovernmental organization specializing in public administration capacity building, CAFRAD reaffirms its commitment to promoting good governance, modernizing public institutions, and developing human skills. Through its training, research, and cooperation activities, the Centre supports African states in their efforts to reform administration and transform public action for the continent’s development.
On this auspicious occasion, the Director General of CAFRAD extends his sincerest congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI—may God assist Him—and reaffirms the Centre’s deepest gratitude for the unwavering support the Kingdom of Morocco has provided since its inception. He also conveys his best wishes for peace, prosperity, and continued development to the Moroccan people.
CAFRAD joins in the commemoration of the recovery of the Oued Eddahab Province and reaffirms its commitment to the values of cooperation, solidarity, good governance, and sustainable development in the service of African peoples.
